The Lining Systems team is proud to have played a part in the full-scale renovation of the magnificent RHS Bridgewater gardens in Salford.
Over the past four years the 154-acre site has undergone a complete transformation, bringing these once impressive gardens back to their former glory.
The project – which is the subject of The Great Northern Garden Build series currently running on the BBC – features a wide range of different elements including a walled garden, woodland and lake.
We came on board to install the GRP lining for five water features on the site.
The first, which has two smaller features running into it, is in the Paradise Garden, an area which showcases exotic planting.
The others are in the beautiful Kitchen Garden, designed by the award-winning Harris Bugg Studio, and include three water features which are set above ground mirror pools.
The team applied two layers of chopped strand matt with a resin wash and then a topcoat. The lining was lipped over the edge of the features and coping stones were put in place to provide a secure finish.
We used a black finish for all of the five water features, however GRP lining is available in a range of colours to suit the desired look. It’s the perfect option for projects such as this as it is strong, UV resistant and non-porous making it easy to keep clean.
Toni Jolin, Lining Systems Director, explained: “We worked with Fountains Direct Limited on the water features for this project and the final results are really impressive.
“During the installation the weather was particularly wet which caused the whole site some problems.
“We worked with the main contractor to try to find a way to keep the features dry to avoid delays. Unfortunately, we were beaten by the elements and we had no option but to wait for better weather.
“Once the rain had stopped the team really rose to the challenge, drafting in extra labour and working really hard in a bid to make up for lost time.
“It’s really interesting seeing the project unfold on the BBC programme, and we are very proud to have been part of this landmark project.”
